If you are running a student service business you will want to check out www.barefootstudent.com. It is kind of like craigslist, but for college students only. Babysitting, odd jobs, what ever...you can advertise it here!

This is a great collection of tips. I like point #3 about finding a partner as passionate as you are. That's really important.

Great advice, as a grad student who started a business at the same time I started grad school, I have to say that I am one of the very few people I know doing this but at the same time it's great, and I love my business.

An excellent post, packed with good advice. If you ever need a "brutally honest friend" who "won't hesitate to tear it apart" then let me know, i'm good at that. However, I like to think I add more than just tearing something apart, I also try to provide practical advice on how the idea can be changed or improved, and good qualified reasons why i'm tearing something apart. It's important to ask opinions from people who not just present you with problems, but also potential solutions - just hearing problems can be very negative.

[...] Matt Inglot: Being a university student is a really weird point in time to be. People who will go on to lead very normal and responsible lives temporarily lose their minds. Experimentation is the thing to do and “being young” is the perfect fallback when things go wrong. Most amazingly it is OK to fail and try something else, a lesson that is quickly lost upon graduation. [...]
